Join us for GeneroCity Market
GeneroCity Market will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

We are excited to announce that Just One Africa is partnering with a selection of other Atlanta-based nonprofits for an event called GeneroCity Market. Hosted by Canopy Life, a creative learning community with an academy in Kenya, the event will take place on Saturday, May 2. Located at 35 Old Canton Street, in the parking lots between The 410 Bridge and Rivers Academy, the Market will be open from 8 am – 4 pm, overlapping with the Alpharetta Farmers Market.

The goal of GeneroCity Market is to raise awareness & funds for local nonprofits by encouraging our community in the joy of living lighter. The idea is simple. Individuals like you choose possessions in your home to donate to a participating cause. These items are not the same as the ones you’d “purge” in a spring cleaning or donate to Goodwill. These are items of value that you no longer use or need. Items donated previously include road bikes, climbing gear, musical instruments, and Keurigs. Donated goods are catalogued on GeneroCity Market’s Facebook event page, and on May 2nd, people can come shop the selection. We call it shopping for GOODness sake.

In addition to being a great place to shop for goods, several ATL-based nonprofits will be onsite, sharing their mission and some free treats. With its accessibility to the Alpharetta Farmers Market, we anticipate this being an awesome hometown event.

JUST ONE AFRICA IS ASKING OUR SUPPORTERS TO DO THREE THINGS:
1. DONATE

In order for GeneroCity Market to be a success, we need donated goods to sell. Here are a few details about how that works:

  • Donation drop offs will be on Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1, at a location in Alpharetta (times and exact location coming soon). When you drop off your item, please be sure to have it tagged as being sold to support Just One Africa, to ensure we receive the funds from your sold item.
  • This is not a yard sale. No item will be sold for less than $40. GeneroCity Market will not accept donations of goods such as clothing, VHS tapes, DVDs, knick-knacks, and books. Ideal items are things like furniture pieces, musical instruments, tools, and electronics in good condition.
  • You will receive a record of your tax-deductible donation from Just One Africa following the event. So when you bring your items to the drop off point, be sure to leave your information and the estimated value of your donated item.
2. SHOP

Check out the Facebook page for items being donated, and join us at GeneroCity Market on May 2.

3. TELL

Tell everyone you know about this event. Throughout the month of April, we will be sharing updates and other fun stuff about GeneroCity Market, which we hope you will share with your friends.

If you have any questions about how you can get involved in GeneroCity Market, please drop a note to Amy Churchill at amy@justoneafrica.org.
