On our June trip, this Eastern Kisumu village in Muhoroni received one water filter, and we returned in October to share more. It takes several hours to drive there but totally worth it! We were greeted by the local soccer team, and they shared what a blessing the clean water has been to them in their sport!
The soccer program in this community was developed for a two-fold purpose: to help get youth off the street and out of trouble as well as train them on HIV/AIDS and the importance of living a healthy life. It gives these young men purpose, community, and a chance to live a long and productive life! Sharing clean water with this community strengthens each one and, in turn changes their world!
This soccer team had been using the filter to bottle water and sell it. This helped them to buy game uniforms, practice jerseys, soccer balls, nets, etc. Each member of the team was responsible for selling water and in thus, this created a unique community of devoted players. It was a win-win for everyone!
